The best thing about learning some composition tricks is that it doesn’t matter what kind of camera you’re using. You can use your point and shoot (here are some secrets to better point and shoot pics), your smartphone (grab some tips on using your smartphone here), or your DSLR. Composing your images with thoughtfulness can create images that go from boring to WOW! One way to compose your images more artistically and thoughtfully is to use leading lines, another technique is filling the frame. Leading lines are lines within the image that draw your eyes to a certain spot in the image. They lead your eyes where the photographer wants you to look. Leading lines can be anything that forms a line in your image. It can be a fence, a horizon, a tree limb, a path, the possibilities are literally endless!!

4 tips for using leading lines in
- Make sure your leading lines are pointing at your subject rather than out of the frame, or in the opposite direction of your subject.
- Look for lines in your surroundings. Lines are all over the place you just have to pay attention.
- Look for patterns. Repeating lines, archways, ripples.
- Try to aim for the leading lines to come from one of the bottom corners for more visual impact.
