May 27, 2019 by lorrin sell Leave a Comment

Playing on computers is a pretty common thing for kids these days.  We are past the point of resistance and entering the embrace it phase.  That said, I do try to find fun educational websites for kids to check out when they’re on the computer.  I figure it’s one place we can stick to educational technology.  These 15 fun educational websites for kids are perfect for a wide range of ages, and have been approved by our kids!

15 Fun Educational Websites for kids

  1. Starfall

Super fun for preschool and kindergartners.  You can pay for a yearly membership which is $35 but you can also do a lot of stuff on the site for free.  This has everything from reading and colors to math.

  2. ABCmouse

Most people have heard about ABCMouse since they have commercials and everything.  This is a great resource for beginning readers or early readers.  The site is for ages 2-8 and they have even expanded to add science and math as well.  It does require a monthly fee, but you can try to for a month free here.

  3. Cool Math Games

This is one that is completely free.  You only need to pay if you want to go “ad-free”.  There are math games for preschool all the way up to algebra.  The kids even play these at school in their classrooms.

  4. NASA kids Club

Another free website that teaches kids all about NASA.  There are fun games and missions for kids to play.  They can do puzzles, and mazes.  This is probably a better site for older kids that are already in school.

  5. PBS kids

This site pretty much has everything you can think of, for preschool ages and up.  There is so much on here from all of sorts of PBS characters your kids love!  Games are even rated by difficulty level, so you don’t have to guess when choosing the right game for your kiddo.  The best part is- it’s all free!  This is a great one to check out!

  6. National Geographic for kids

So many cool games and pictures about animals and natural phenomena.  Kids of all ages would love this site.  Think National Geographic but for kids, because that’s exactly what it is.  It has the same great pictures, and amazing information, and tons of games.  All free!  But, be warned because I could totally see getting sucked into buying a subscription to National Geographic for kids.

  7. Fun Brain

So many games and things to do on one FREE website.  Grades are marked on each of the games so there is no confusion.  There is also an are dedicated to just pre-k and kindergarten called the Playground.  There are educational videos, AND you can even read books on the site.  Super cool stuff going on here!

  8. Highlights for Kids

Remember Highlights from when you were a kid??!!  I loved that magazine!  Now you can get it for free on an app.  This is an actual app, and it’s meant for ages 6-12, so older kids would benefit from this one.

  9. Scratch

This is about the coolest site ever!  It teaches kids coding.  I’m thinking I need to start playing all of this games so I learn a thing or two.  It’s another one that is geared towards older kids with an age level recommendation of 8-16 years old.  It’s also completely free!

  10. Rich Kid, Smart Kid

Never in the history of websites has there ever been a more worthwhile site for KIDS!  This teaches kids all sorts of financial lessons.  The age level starts from kindergarten and works its way up all the way to teens.  It’s all free but you can purchase some cool board games and things like that.  You can also find lesson plans on the site so it’s great for teachers and homeschoolers.

  11. JumpStart

On top of having all sorts of games for preschool and up online, there is a whole world of physical resources for teachers and parents.  If you’re tired of letting your kid play computer games, you can use this free resource to print worksheets and even find all kinds of lesson plans.  This site really works great for including parents in the learning process when they want to get involved.

  12. Wonderopolis

You know how your kids ask you questions you don’t have an answer for?  Like- “Why do we call it breakfast?” or ” Why are only certain animals our pets?”  This site lets your kids ask these questions, and it posts the answers to all sorts of questions like that.  Super cool!

  13. Young Ocean Explorers

This site is less games, and more videos and interactive quizzes.  It’s super interesting stuff though, and I think most kids could spend a lot of time on this site.  I spent a fair amount of time checking it out.  I love the ocean!

  14. How Stuff Works

This is another site that isn’t as much about the games, but about finding stuff out.  The topics range from science, to money, to entertainment, to animals, and more.  This site is geared to older kids, and teens.  Totally free again!

  15. Science Bob

All kinds of science here!  So many science questions answered, and you can even find science fair project ideas here.  Trust me, if you’ve ever done a science fair project, that right there is golden!!

I hope you found one or two fun educational websites for kids in that list that was new to you! Do you recommend one that wasn’t on this list?  Leave it in the comments!
